Description

For Parshat Shemini we will analyze the significance & status of the 8th Day of the Milu'im, the day of the innaguration of the Mishkan. This was the day of the tragic death of Nadav & Avihu, the sons of Aaron, and HaKaBaHu addresses the surviving brothers, Elazar & Itamar, with the command ראשיבם על תפרעו, enjoining the Kohanim from behaving as mourners and contaminating themselves by burying their deceased brothers. The Rambam in Sefer HaMitzvos sees this prohibition as the source for the Lo TaAseh לדורות of a Kohen entering the Mikdash to implement the Avoda in a state of Aveilus. The Ramban rejects this verse as the source for the Lo TaAseh, rather this is a הוראת שעה. We will analyze the Ramban: why was the 8th day so significant?
