Description
Why no Birchat HaZ'man on the Mitzva of Sfirat HaOmer? Whenever we perform a new Mitzva that comes at particular time period, e.g. Succa, Lulav, Shofar, Matzah, etc., we recite She'he'chiyanu prior to the Mitzva performance. We will analyze the answers offered by the Rishonim, i.e. the Ba'al HaMaor, the Ran, the Meiri, and the Chinuch. We will place Sefirat HaOmer midway between two polar extremes: Lulav for 7 days, and כורך on the Seder night. Our q' is: when is a Zecher LaMikdash upgraded to the status of a full fledged Ma'aseh Mitzva & a מצוה דרבנן? Lulav fits into the latter category; כורך is purely Zecher. Where is Sefirat HaOmer? Without a Ma'aseh Mitzva there is no Beracha. We will discuss עלינו at the end of Tefilla, Sefira b4 Omer
