Description

We will began our study of the principle of שומע כעונה. Does this apply to Birchat HaNehenin? To kriat Shema? To reading the Haggada? To Birchat HaMazon? To Tefilla? We will study the exemptions to this rule, Rashi's point in Rosh Hashana,& then the 3 exceptions established by the Yerushalmi. We will analyze the great controversy regarding the common situation of one who finds himself in the middle of his Shmona Esrei when he hears the Shatz is up to Kedusha. Should he pause & listen to the Shatz and thereby fulfill the mitzva of Kedusha by way of the principle of שומע כעונה? We will study the insight of R' Yosef Engel who offers two definitions of this principle & the difference between the two. This will have an impact on Birchat Kohanim.
