Description

We will study the sugya of שרצים focusing on the question: how many lavim does one violate for eating various 'shratzim'? There are crawling creatures that live in both water and land. Other creatures creep on the ground but also fly in the air. How many sets of Malkot would one incur for eating these shratzim? What about a worm in a cabbage? We will see that the Halacha changes if one crushes or chews a sheretz and then swallows it, as opposed to a sheretz that was swallowed whole. In the last case one has eaten a בריה, i.e. a whole creature as it exists in the natural world & even though the creature was smaller than a כזית the minimal shiur for engendering an Achila for Malkos, nevertheless he gets Malkos.
