Description

An introduction to the Rabbinic Issur of medical treatment on Shabbat for someone who is not categorized as a 'Chole", i.e. he does not need to get into bed nor does he experience a general weakness of his body. Why did Chazal institute this prohibition? Does the reason for this Gezeira still apply today? Does the Issur apply to wearing braces on Shabbat, to exercise and work up a sweat , taking medications which strengthen the body, taking vitamins, rubbing the body and various forms of me-sage? What about running and jogging? What about aspirins and pain killers? When does the license of "Kederech HaBeri'im" apply? Is there a Heter for treatments that have no healing effect but regulate the body (hormones)? What about sleeping pills?
