Description

Semester 3: Shi'ur 4. Building off of our previous discussions of the character of early Jewish society, we attempt to place in context the ubiquity in ancient synagogues uncovered by archaeologists of pagan imagery. In particular, we ask what this imagery would have meant to Jews during this period, and how it might (or might not) have come into conflict with the issur to make a pesel.
