Description

Ancient custom to visit grave on yahrzeit (memorial). Spiritual reasons for going to a gravesite: 1. Reminds us of the day of our death humbling us and bringing us to teshuvah (repent). 2. Daven (pray) to Hashem in merit of niftar (deceased) at the grave (where we are more sensitive to pray). 3. We feel the presence of the loved one and with a broken heart we remember our self younger before we sinned. 4. Go to grave of tzaddik that we knew to a place where we can be honest since the nefesh (soul) of the tzaddik remains attached to the grave. 5. Highest level- cleaving of one spirit to another spirit.
