Description

A short piece from Maamarei Raya, from Rav Kook on the mitzvah of haseiba (leaning) at the Pesach seder. Since the industrial revolution, humanity has felt more and more tlisha (uprootedness), which is not healthy for a person. Being uprooted as a nation is a suffering that the Jewish people have endured since being exiled from Eretz Yisrael. The Jewish people live a double reality - one that we have a physical place that is ours, the Land; and two that we have a spiritual place that is ours, the Torah. When we have a stronger physical life in Eretz Yisrael, it has a very positive impact on Jews throughout the world. The mitzvah of haseiba teaches us that when the Jews are home in Eretz Yisrael, we all, as a nation, need to feel home both in the physical sense and in the spiritual sense, with the Torah. Being in Eretz Yisrael without the Torah is not a complete return.
