Description

From R' Tzvi Meir Zilberberg's ma'amar "Biz'chus Tzeisi MiBeisi Hachutzah" (in the merrit of leaving my home and going outside) in Sichos Hizchaskus, published 5769, p. 333. What does it mean to leave my fixed place, my self, my needs and caring more for the needs of others? Although Chazal (the Sages) revealed to us that a person has to say "Bishvili nivrah ha'olam" (the world was created for me), we are not supposed to take that literally. Bikur cholim (visiting the sick) and a shivah call (comforting mourners) are not about me. The importance of thinking about the reason we peform mitzvos. A spouse is an ezer kenegdo (helper, opposite him) by being keneged. Letting go of perceived (or even real) slights, insults, and inconveniences. Moving the arbah minim (four species) in all directions means that we allow ourselves to be pulled away from our stubborness and inflexibility - to subjugate our selfish desires to the needs of others (especially our spouses and children). Is my main concern what's best for my child or how his behaviour and appearance reflects on me? Enjoying another's success. The root of simchah.
