Description

If only Jews kept just two Shabboses. If a sick person has to eat on Shabbos/Yom Kippur, does he make kiddush (blessing over wine) and say "retzeh" during bentshing (blessing after the meal)? The melachah (work) of "resting" from eating on Yom Kippur. Tzaddikim (righteous) say that there are two halachos (laws) that didn't have to be codified. A possiblity of reaching such an exalted state on Yom Kippur that the noise of the world simply fades away. Focusing on something higher and deeper. Al Chet - ABOVE [and beyond] the sin (rather than the tradditional translation of "for" the sin). According to the RamChaL, teshuva means akirah (uprooting) my desire out of the world of sin. I don't NEED to eat right now. The combination of Yom Kippur and Shabbos gie us a taste of a higher will and a higher life. We will not save our generation and our children by taking away yet more pleasures. Understanding that yiddishkeit is much more fun that the latest gagdet.
