Description

Both the broken and the whole luchos (tablets) were kept in the aron (holy ark). The number six indicates the movement toward the inner point while the number seven is that inner point. The month of Elul's relationship to the month of Tishrei is likened to Erev Shabbos in relation to Shabbos. Elul is also connected to the tribe of Gad who would lead the Jewish people in wars. The idea of talking in between putting on tefillin is the severance between thought and action. We would rather fight the easy wars in our lives rather than the difficult ones. You can only win a war with a niggun.
