Constant recognition of G-d brightens the eyes and enlightens the heart. The red odem is the stone of the tribe of Reuven, expressing the simchah of seeing Hashem. The name Shimon is connected to hearing. Shimon's nature stems from the deepest depths of reality and is the opposite of his appearance. The pitada (green emerald) is Shimon's stone and its Hebrew name reflects his essence.
