Description

In addition to Tomer Devorah being a powerful sefer to learn in order to work on middos (character traits), it also has a segulah power, and is most commonly learned in the month of Elul. The goal of a Jew is to resemble Hashem through his actions. The Nefesh HaChaim says that we are created in the 'tzelem Elokim' (image of G-d), implying through the name 'Elokim' that man has been given tremendous power to create and destroy. The Ramchal says that through contemplating the human powers, we can have a greater awareness of Hashem's powers. To appreciate the middos in Hashem requires recognizing and utilizing the middos in ourselves. Hashem created us through the ten sefiros and the thirteen middos. Tomer Devorah helps build the 'I' who is having a relationship with Hashem. When we access the middos, that middah opens up above and sends its shefa (abundance). Story of the Divrei Chaim's daughter's wedding dress.
