We would experience more happiness if we would lift ourselves above the smallness of this world. If we don't live our lives with yashrus (straightness) then we're being inconsistent with the way we were created. We tend to have a negative association with teshuvah (repentance). In our generation we are lacking depth. Events of a person's life don't determine happiness.
