Description

P. 180. Do we feel physical or spiritual meitzar (constraint)? What is the meitzar of the neshamah? The anguish of not having improved in my avodas (service of) Hashem, my midos (traits), my learning. To build ourselves into the person we can become, we must interact with, and learn from people who completely different from us. Hisrachavus (expansiveness) in the context of marriage - Are you going to be able to become something else for the day if your wife needs you to? Our simchah (joy) comes from our ability to expand, to be a "misrachev." We must take on the challenge of other people, of opposites - over time this will crate tremendous oneg (pleasure). The greatest hisrachavus - stuck in some hotel room for 25 hours on Shabbos, with only a siddur, chumash, some other sefer and a tuna sandwich. Investing ourselves in somebody who is different. We can occupy our own space, yet grow closer to somebody else.
