Selection from Siddur of Ba'al Ha-Tanya. The midah (trait) of Keser has an exterior and inner force. The exterior force is the ratzon (will), the desire and will to do something. However, the inner force (i.e. the cause) of the desire is pleasure. The inner force of Keser is called Oneg (pleasure). The anticipated pleasure is what awakens the desire in a person. It is the driving force behind everything. Therefore, the culmination of eventually fulfilling the desire - hopefully for holy things - brings the recognition that the beginning is rooted in the end. The pleasure is rooted in the desire and the desire is rooted in the pleasure.
