Description

Based on the writings of Rav Chaim Cohen, the Chalban, Tallelei Chaim, Sefer Bereishis, P. 538. Is our service of Hashem "mil'mata le'ma'alah" (from below to above) or from above to below? If we think it's up to us, then we are very distant from bitachon (trust [in Hashem]). How can we work on trusting in Hashem when we simply don't feel that, and how do we work on completely relying on Him when we naturally want to reoly on money, the economy, our physicians and other people? The first test - who do we turn to at a time of distress or calamity? A definition of bitachon. How is it possible that Yaakov was afraid of Esav; he and his sons were mighty war-lords. The main task, even if it looks like there's nothing to be afraid of, is to transport ourselves into a frame of mind that only Hashem can help. A true gibor (mighty person) is afraid, because he recognizes the danger, but he trusts in Hashem and overcomes his fear. How? By having the mind (which trusts in Hashem) take over the emotions.
