Description

There are two worlds – what we want and what G-d wants from us. Our job is to come to want what G-d wants of us. The yetzer tov (good inclination) asks, "What does Hashem want?" The yetzer horah (evil inclination) asks "What do I want?" Mesiras Nefesh means giving up what I want for what G-d wants, but this method is likely to fail. We have to seek ways to slowly bring ourselves to want what G-d wants. Only we Jews have the capacity to turn G-d’s will into our own will. The depths of every Jewish heart truly yearns for the will of G-d. Ahava she’eina teluya b’davar (love that is not dependent on anything) is truly wanting the will of G-d. When our will is the same as G-d’s will, we become one with G-d.
