Our neshama (soul) is a burning fire which is being extinguished by our body, water-logged from this world of eating, movies, songs. In previous generations it was possible to shake up our body by self-affliction or through self-criticism which often lead to depression, despair and lethargy. In our generation, we should beseech Hashem for at least 15 minutes daily that we truly want to come closer to Him.
