Diaspora / Talmud Bavli, as opposed to the Yerushalmi, and Eretz Yisrael. In what situation does "Torah lo bashamayim hi" (the Torah [legal decision] is not found in Heaven) apply - when is it that we don't allow prophecy into halachic (Jewish law) decision making? The process of restoring the halachos which were forgotten after Moshe Rabbeinu's passing. Why not allow prophetic intervention to assist this process? Empowering our sages to utilize the tools of Torah she'ba'al peh (verbal Torah) and strengthening the people's faith in Torah she'ba'al peh. A break from the Moshe / Yehoshuah prophecy team to Osniel ben Knaz's logic and halachic pilpul (involved discussion). Pilpul as a means of clarifying all sides of an issue.
