Description

Rav Kook's Ma'amar al Pnimius HaTorah, Page 329, Section 19. Inappropriately excessive humility makes a person small and prevents him from believing himself and the greatness of Am Yisrael (the Jewish people); this kind of humility makes a person's life depressing and boring. The two types of yirah (awe / fear) result in vastly different outcomes in our avodas (service of) Hashem. When we are small, we tend to forget basic manners and human decency. Refined [read great] people are not inspired by fear of punishment. We must begin learning and teaching pnimius (inner aspects of) haTorah in a quiet and broad-minded way - this will help expand our, and our children's minds. Hashem brought us back into Eretz Yisrael; has that changed us at all, have we become greater by being in our own country, by being in control? The great disconnect between how we are taught and who we are. It is hard to fill up a big neshamah (soul) with a mansion with a golf course in the backyard; this type of neshamah needs to be stuffed with chochmah (wisdom), understanding, exaltedness and knowledge.
