Description

Rav Kook's Ma'amar "Al pnimius haTorah." p. 324, piece 13. The world is advancing and becoming more sophisticated and the simple teachings that satisfied our ancestors are no longer sufficient. What about our grandparents simple understanding and teachings of Yiddishkeit? The different ways of learning holy texts in a superficial way, or in pnimius (inside and deep). Educators must be very careful what they impart to the children - not the subject matter, but the way it is taught. We must uncover the true and essential value of everything before we convey it to somebody else. The kids will not give up on their electronic devices, so we must therefore teach how to use them to reveal as much light as possible. Banning things will merely force them to hide their activities in more sophisticated ways. Many children live multiple lives when they believe nobody is watching and this is wearing them down. Just because we manage to "catch" our children, doesn't mean that they'll be better Jews. If we don't provide the generation with life in their Yiddishkeit, they will look for it somewhere else, because they will look at Torah and their parents and teachers as outdated relics.
