Description

Rav Kook's Ma'amar "Al pnimius haTorah." p. 317. Both the parents and the children have to believe that we contain an inner ruach (spirit) and strengthen that ruach. A person can live his life, looking and acting the part when everything is running smoothly - this is the exterior; but if his pnimius (inner being) is not strong, and a big storm comes along, he will be completely blow off his spiritual course. If our emunah (faith) is strong, alive and deeply rooted in a connection with Hashem, it can survive upheavals and storms. Rav Kook is not talking about a few sprinkles of pnimius - he means the entire "building," teaching everything from the depths of the roots up to the highest concepts. Not everything in life is a hurricane, sometimes it's just a little breeze, and we must be able to recognize the difference. If a person, who knows a lot of Torah sits in jail because he stole millions of dollars, it means that he has no pnimius in Torah. It says in the Torah "lo signov" (don't steal). When there is a storm outside and the infrastructure is weak, it is as if, chas vechalilah (Heaven forbid) "ein bris ve'ein Torah (there is no covenant).
