Description

P. 57. When is a person truly ready to learn Torah? When a person learns Torah for the right reasons (lishmah) ignites in him a desire to get closer to God. In response to a question: When a person feels that he doesn't have the desire to come close, but wants to want, or cries because he is not crying, he's already on the right path. When a person does not feel particularly connected, he should occupy himself with mitzvos and ma'asim tovim (good deeds); but a the moment that he feels the desire for a deeper connection, he must allow his soul the freedom to express itself in spiritual pursuits and learning. A person should absolutely learn [this, of course, requires an honest and objective assessment] that which raises him in holiness and brings him spiritually closer to Hashem. [this does NOT apply to young children]. Stories about questions what to learn with our youth. What is a sign that learning of nistar / pnimius haTorah (secrets of Torah) is actually working? When we truly want to get closer to Hashem, and have no rest and no piece unless we reach this goal, Hashem promises that He will not hide Himself from us.
