Sixth Perek, 5th Torah. Continuing the Iggeres HaMussar from Rav Yisroel Salanter. In a city or area where a certain aveira (transgression) is common, it takes work to overcome doing it. If we do in-depth learning of the halachos of an aveira that we are accustomed to doing, slowly over time, we will begin to notice changes. In addition to learning halachos in depth, we must also learn mussar, aggados from Chazal (the Sages), and daven. When using the method of in-depth learning to uproot an aveira, start with 'smaller' aveiros. Torah saves us from aveiros even when we are not in the moments of sitting and learning. Every single piece of Torah is connected to every other piece of Torah. We need both the general healing light of Torah and the specific healing of aveiros through in-depth learning.
