The role of Malchus (royalty) is to unite all the disparate subjects to function as a unit. Malchus creates something new from this unity. On Shabbos (which is Malchus)  the distractions of the week become united in purpose. We are welcomed into Shabbos with light from the candles enabling us to return to our mission.
