Biography. The third Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rebbe Menachem Mendele also known as The Tzemach Tzeddek, was born on the 29th of Elul in 1789. He was born to Reb Shalom Shachna and Devorah Leah, the daughter of the Ba'al HaTanya. Devorah Leah made an oath that she should die instead of her father, The Ba'al HaTanya. Circumstances that surrounded The Tzemach Tzeddek's third birthday. After his mother's death, The Tzemach Tzeddek was raised primarily by The Ba'al HaTanya. "Where there's learning, there's life." He was known for his brilliance beginning at a very young age.
