Description
Even if we are constantly in a state of simcha (joy) we must put aside an hour daily to break our hearts before Hashem. Without simcha- tefillah (prayer) is not tefillah. Risk of becoming depressed is very very dangerous. Rav Shlomo Freifeld had a terrific sense of humor. Sadness comes from the spleen which holds the shmutz (junk) of the body. A broken heart resides in the heart. Depression is despised by Hashem since it is the sitra achra (evil inclination). Hashem loves broken hearts. Modern society is buried under a mountain of pornography which is the saddest commentary on the matzav ruach (state of mind) of modern man. Yosef was under the terrible misunderstanding that Yaakov his father did not love him. The Rebbe Rashab (of Chabad) explains the bitterness we feel from being separated from Hashem.
