Description

P. 127. Even though we may have solid emunah, it is still difficult to speak to Hashem, who is completely beyond our conception. Children have to create some sort of vague image to help them think about Hashem. Adults can also be stuck in their childhood images. The Kabbalists think of shemos (Hashem's names) and tzirufim (combinations of letters) to eliminate imaginations from davening. The Rishonim say that the only thing we can say about Hashem is that He is 'chai' - He has true existence. Even the neshamos (souls) of the tzaddikim in shamayim (heaven) have no grasp of Hashem's essence. Before Moshiach comes, the challenge is to have emunah peshuta (simple). The sefarim hakedoshim (holy books) instruct us on how to meditate on Hashem in the correct way.
