Description

P. 119. The problem with being in a comfortable and pleasant gallus (exile) and accepting it. While it is wonderful that create goals and objectives in learning and davening, but these "projects" can cause us to forget Hashem. It is incredibly exciting to learn Torah with somebody who is completely connected to Hashem, to his Rebbi, or a tzaddik (righteous person) from earlier generations. A project in learning can easily become just another item on our long list of "to do's." When the key-phrase becomes "I'm done!" rather than what am I doing right now. A person should learn something to which his soul is drawn rather than only what we "must" learn for others or for recognition. [This is clearly much more applicable to adults than to children in yeshivah or seminary]. Our davening shouldn't be about getting something or wanting something, but about being close to Hashem. Success does not mean being free of any evil inclinations, or "having made it." The animal soul had managed to influence the Divine soul in its avodas (service of) Hashem. We can fall into the trap of hiding a physical pleasure behind a seemingly holy cause.
