Description

P. 115. A person, wonderful as he is, and great as his actions may be, can place himself in a personal gallus (exile) in which he does not allow himself the peace of mind and quiet to truly attach himself to Hashem. Such a person accumulates lots of merrits, and yet, he is so occupied with serving the King that he is too busy to be with the King. The challenge of serving Hashem with our heart and having a relationshiph with Him. We strive to be Hashem's close, personal friend, and the performance of mitzvos (commandments), while necessary and essential, must not get in the way of that relationship. How does a person swing from activity to connectedness? How does he bring more awareness into his heart? We need to get away from the "me" aspect of learning and avodas (service of) Hashem. Which question do we need to answer: "Did I succeed or fail in my learning?" or "Where is Hashem in my life?" Are we measuing our Yiddishkeit with a scorecard?
