There are two types of Jews, those living according to nature and those living above nature. We need to aspire to levels that are attainable. We lose simcha (joy) when trying to live a life on a level we have not yet attained. Jokes can raise a person's spirit. How do you know if you are on the path of Hashem? A certain lowliness can damper our service of G-d.
