Description

Custom of Arizal was to have 12 challahs on Shabbos. Old custom in Eretz Yisrael was to consume challah per meal. The Vilna Gaon held that we need to cut both challahs before recting the blessing. The Tikunei Zohar says you need 12 challahs per meal. In the Ukraine they made one 12-part challah.
