Description

Middos (character traits) stem from intellect. The wisdom of the Oral Law clarifies good from evil, against our own understanding of good. We must make 'cracks in the wall' of our stone hearts to return back to Hashem. The King's inner courtyard represents Shabbos and Yom Tov. The King has a presence in His inner courtyard but he does not live (sleep) there. Shabbos and Yom Tov are times when we rise up in spirituality, but can not experience the permanent light of Hashem. The taste of Shabbos engenders within us a desire to see more of the King, which draws us closer to Him. Persistent crying and begging Hashem to remove the ego, the wall of bad middos and taivos (desires), will result in the revelation of Hashem's essence within physicality and exile.
