Description

Ratzo (yearning for Hashem) and shuv (distancing from Him) is the avodah (spiritual work) of Tishrei. Din (Hashem's judgment) awakens a person to teshuvah and the closeness of Yom Kippur. Since Hashem is so close that we are standing next to Him, how can we turn our back on Him? When we turn to Hashem panim el panim (face to face) on Yom Kippur, we have no desire to eat because we are so lovesick for Him.
