Description

From Toras Emes (Reb Leibeleh Eiger zy"a), p. 136. Yaakov had a tradition that if none of his children die during his lifetime, he would not descend into Gehenom. However, now that Yosef was missing, he wanted to descend into the ground with him - he saw no point in continuing. How could Yaakov be consoled? He trusted in God and strengthened his heart, although it was irrational. This is our situation in exile, before redemption. The Tzaddik is missing, around us and within us. It seems hopeless. Yet with steadfast faith in God, we merit to see our true wholeness and eventually that of the Jewish people. Chanukah is about finding the missing Tzaddik within. Igniting and kindling the fire within ourselves and all Jews worldwide.
