Description

In this shiur for Masechet Berachot, we will study the view of Rabenu Yona on the zemanim for Birchat Kriat Shema, Kriat Shema, Arvit, and Zechirat Yetziat Mitzrayim. On the one hand, Kriat Shema requires 'leila mamash', i.e. Tzeis HaKochavim; on the other hand, the period of time between sunset and Tzeis HaKochavim is defined as 'miktzas leila' during which we can fulfill three mitzvot, Birchat Kriat Shema, Tefillas Ma'ariv, and Zechirat Yetziat Mitzrayim. How are we meant to understand this dichotomy?
