In this shiur for Parshat Vayeira, we will study the two great challenges which Lot faces, one when Avraham tells Pharoh that he is the brother of Sara, will Lot remain silent? The second when guests come to the home of Lot, will Lot receive them and risk his life? In both sitations Lot is granted freedom of choice & we would assume that the 2nd event was the greater challenge, yet Lot is saved from Sedom in merit of the 1st choice. We will explain this paradox based on the famous thesis of the Michtav Eliyahu of HaRav Dessler called נקודת הבחירה. Where & when is man fased with choice & how do we evaluate man's genuine inner level of piety & righteousness? This is a great ethical lesson of the Baalei Mussar that must be studied & reviewed.
