The essence of the self is unknowable, but can be accessed through the delight we take in things that we think, say, and do. There are intellectual and emotional garments of the soul. These are what change throughout life, but the soul in its essence remains the same, perfect and unblemished. God created the world with 10 utterances, corresponding to the 10 Sefirot. Like the soul, God's essence is unknowable, be he can be known by utilizing the intellect and the emotions. when we do that we make a dwelling place for God down below.
