Description

-- Does the requirement for simcha apply to Rosh Hashana like other yomim tovim, or is it a Yom HaDin that requires trepidation? -- Clue #1: Is there a requirement for seuda, or said differently, a prohibition to fast on Rosh Hashana? -- Clue #2: Does the nusach in davening and kiddush for Rosh Hashana include sasson and simcha? -- Clue #3: Do we say hallel on Rosh Hashana? -- Perhaps the answer is that we should have a restrained simcha, not unrestrained sasson (joy in the moment). The day's requirements reflect this goal, and that is the basis of the many arguments over what is required and what isn't on Rosh Hashana. -- Seeing the 4 days of selichot and aseret yemei teshuva in this light.
