Description

Given during the Erev Rosh HaShana Torahthon. In Tehilim, King David constantly vacillates between a personal focus and a collective focus. His issues eventually become enwrapped in the issues of the Jewish people. On Rosh HaShana, we pass before God as individuals, but also as soldiers of King David, part of one unit. The latter becomes the focus of the day. Between Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur we return the focus on the self, but with a new outlook, that we are each part of some larger whole. As a person gets to know his or her self, they realize that their actions have cosmic significance, and each Jew can uplift every fallen Jew in the world.
