Description

Lecture given on a bus in Marseille, France. Rabbi Schachter discusses the Ba'al Haitur, a rabbi in Marseille during the lifetime of the Rabeinu Tam. He quotes often from the Rambam, the Yerushalmi, and the Gaonim. He held that amira l'akum on shabbos is mutar letzorech mitzvah. He held that the nusach of the birchas kedushin is al yedei chupah b'kidushin. He held that women do not count towards the minyan of reading the megilas Esther. He held that one recites a bracha when performing the mitzvah of hoshanos. One does not cook on Thursday, yom tov rishon, for shabbos, even with an eiruv tavshilin. Why did the Ba'al Hamaor not wear tzitzit? Is it proper for rabbis to wear special robes, or synagogues to have stained glass windows?
