Description

The dual character of Rosh Hashana, as both the anniversary of Creation & as the day of judgement, the Yom HaDin. These two elements of the day come together in the bracha of zichronos which we recite in the Musaf of R"H. We will see that our tefilla reflects the view of R' Eliezer that the world was created in Tishrei. But in truth the world was created on the 25th of Elul; man was created on R"H. We will study the biography of 'acher' (Elisha ben Avuya): why did he go off the Derech? We will see that "All inheres in the beginning", and this is the concept of 'Reishis'. Rebby Chiya understood this concept and carefully prepared the transmission of Torah. During this period we must prepare ourselves for a great "reishis".
