-- The argument over the beracha if its "to hear the shofar" or "to blow the shofar". -- We basically pasken its to hear; what then is the role of the baal tokeah? -- Six modes of understanding: 1) Rabbeinu Tam, the mitzvah is the blowing. 2) The mitzvah is the hearing, but it must be a "kol shel chiyuv". 3) The mitzvah is both blowing and hearing, former is the maaseh hamitzvah and the latter is the kiyum hamitzvah. 4) Similar approach: The mitzvah must have an active component to it, which is the blowing. 5) Both blowing and hearing is part of the mitzvah (no brisker chakira involved). 6) Blowing is a hechsher mitzvah that is in the Torah, carrying with it special laws. -- Perhaps the shofar isn't just a wake-up call, but a keep-up call.
