Description

At the end of Parshat Ki Teitzei the Torah mandates the Mitzvah of Remembering Miriam, her punishment for speaking pajoritively about Moshe Rabenu. Is this the scriptural basis for the Issur of Lashon HaRah? According to the Ramban it is. Why did the Torah formulate this mitzvah in such an unusual manner? And how is this prohibition different than Lo Teilech Rachil Be'amecha? What does the word Rachil mean and who is classified as a Ba'al Lashon HaRah? Why is there no communal punishment for the violation of Lashon HaRah on the part of an individual?
