Description

This shiur on Parshat Shoftim will be divided into two parts: Halacha on Lo Tasur regarding the authority of the Chachamim to establish Mitzvot DeRabanan and the controversy as to whether these Mitzvot should be counted in Taryag. We will study the Ramban's insights into the philosophy that underlies the Law of Eidim Zomemim; why do we believe the second pair of witnisses rather than the first, and why do we suspend the law od Zomemim if the accused was already put to death? In the last part of the shiur we will offer mussar baed on the mitzvah to put the murderer to death. This mussar will give us an insight into the soul of man and the potential to exist within close proximity to Him. We will study Navot who was murdered by Achav.
