Description

An introductory shiur to the 8th Perek of Yoma. We will address the controversy over the status of the 4 Inuyim, Although eating and drinking are clearly Deoraita, the other four categories can be classified as either Deoraita or Derabanan. The Rosh proves that Rashi maintains the latter and supports this view from the leniency that we find permitting a king of a kallah to wash, or a woman after childbirth to wear shoes. We will analyze the Rambam's view as understood by the Kesef Mishna and try to defend the Rambam against the arguments of the Rosh. Why did the Torah authorize Chachamim to define the parameters of the mitzva of "Shabboson" re: Yom Kippur? How is this similar to Chol HaMoed? Why is there a unique shiur for the Issur Achila?
