Description

A mussar shmooze for Parshat Shoftim. We will study the verse in Devarim 17:21 You shall not set for yourself an Asheira tree", i.e. Avodah Zarah. We will find in this prohibition a statement about the repulsive nature of haughtiness. In the section (17:11) about the authority of the Chachamim, we will find mussar about the reverence one must have for one's Rebby. In the command to the King to have a second Sefer Torah, we will establish the significance of a daily Cheshbon HaNefesh. In the verse (18:13) "Be complete with your God", we will establish the injunction against adding conditions & using one's subjective logic to interpret the Mitzvot in a convenient way. Our commitment to the mitzvot must be absolute no adding of conditions.
