Description
According to the Gemorah in Sanhedrin, Rava created a "human being" (a Gavra). Rashi explains that Rave used the Sefer HaYetzira to do so. In this shiur, we will study the status of a creature created by man. The Chacham Tzvi assumes that such a creature is a human being, but is he a Jew? Can he be included in a minyan? The Ramak (Cordevero) establishes that such a being has no Neshama. This would explain why Rebby Zera was able to reduce this creature to the dust he came from without violated the prohibition against murder. Rav Yaakov Emden wonders if this creature is a deaf mute since Rebby Zeira couldn't get him to respond. Or does this creature have the life force of an animal and is not to be treated as a human being at all?
