Description

How do we determine a Yahrtzeit as far as fasting? Do we begin calculating the year of Aveilus, a "melos" of 12 months, or is the calendar date the determining factor? We will present the view of the Mechaber to the effect that the calendar date is the Yom HaTaanis, whereas the Ramah views the culmination of the period of 12 months which sets up the Yahrtzeit. A similar issue applies to the question of "Gadlus" of the boy born in Adar of a regular year when 13 years later there is a leap year. Are we calculating Gadlus as the passage of time, or the calendar date? Can In this second part of the shiur we began a few days ago we will assume the conclusion of the Yerushalmi, namely, that Adar II is the real Adar; Adar I is merely a "tosefet".
